Most typical dental procedures are performed in office. The materials used are those found to be compatible with the majority of patients. We offer the Clifford test for anyone wanting a customized approach regarding dental materials. If you've already had the test, please bring the results with you. Likewise, if you've had recent x-rays, please bring them with you. Should you need x-rays, our system is digital which reduces radiation exposure by up to 90% over conventional systems.

Initial Exam

Your initial exam will cover an examination for TMJ problems, a cancer screening, gum disease, tooth decay and structural problems, and an evaluation of the restorations currently in place. Cosmetic and material concerns are discussed at this time. Then a treatment plan, with options if available, will be created based on the findings of what is necessary to bring your oral health to a more ideal state.

Gum Disease

Gum disease, often overlooked in years past, has been positively linked to a variety of systemic illnesses, particularly heart disease. An aggressive approach to eliminating gum disease, both at home and in the office, will go a long way toward optimizing your health. The changes that can occur in a short period of time are quite remarkable. Healthy gums create an environment for good restorations with maximum longevity.

Restorations

Tooth restorations can range from a composite resin filling to a porcelain inlay/onlay or full crown, to a high precious metal crown or porcelain fixed to high precious metal crown. Just as you have biological or cosmetic issues, your teeth have structural issues that also must be taken into account when choosing the restoration.

Replacement

Tooth replacement can be done in several ways: removable, fixed, or an implant. Implants most closely resemble natural teeth, with a titanium post placed in the jaw, and a crown placed over it. A fixed replacement is a cemented bridge, where the missing tooth is made of porcelain or porcelain fixed to high precious metal which is connected to two or more other teeth which are crowned. This is the most popular choice. A removable bridge, or partial to full denture, typically involves multiple missing teeth and is quite cost effective. If you have missing teeth these options will be discussed to see what's right for you.

Root Canals

Root canals are quite controversial, and are certainly not the best treatment for some (and some would say ALL) cases. However, in an otherwise healthy patient, there may be situations where the risk/benefit ratio favors doing a root canal.

Extractions

Extractions are a necessary part of dentistry, although every effort is made to avoid it. Extractions that may be surgical, or for patients that request sedation, are cases that will be referred to a specialist.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry ties in nicely with biological dentistry since the bulk of our restorations are tooth colored. We can expand on that with tooth whitening, tooth shaping, and porcelain veneers. If looking good accompanies feeling good for you be sure to mention it at your exam.
